Tanner's third grade class has been reading a series of books that are all spin-offs from the original Three Little Pigs. They all have the same underlying story, but with different locales (ex. Hawaii), and different styles houses, etc. The assigned project for this lesson was for each child to build a pig house and write in eight sentences or more why their pig house was strong and could withstand the Big Bad Wolf. Here is Tanner's pig house.
The theory behind Tanner's house is this:
1. It is built with a cardboard box, but lined with bricks. The bricks are "mortared" with Gorilla Glue (more about Gorilla Glue later).
2. The house is then camouflaged with flowers and a wood roof is camouflaged with pine needles making it difficult for the wolf to even find the house.
3. There is no chimney, thus not allowing for sneaky entry by the wolf.
All in all, assembly went well. The original idea was for the house to be covered in pine needles, but even Gorilla Glue wouldn't hold them on. However, Gorilla Glue does hold 2X4s in place when they are left to dry laying on the cement garage door. I think Justin's toes still hurt from kicking, and kicking, and kicking until the wood roof finally came loose from the floor!
Good job Tanner...a great imagination and a job well done!
