As a fundraiser (for the GC Food Pantry, I think) the Hillview art class makes pottery bowls. They seal them properly so that they can actually be used to eat out of and host "Empty Bowls". During this event, members of the community come to the school and buy an empty bowl (one of the student pottery bowls) for $7 and then have it filled with "free" ice cream and toppings.
There are also free crafts (face painting, sand art, tie dye shirts, etc) going on outside while the ice cream eating is done in the cafeteria. At the end of the event, the 4-6 grade band gives a 30 minute performance, so Tanner had to be there. JJ wasn't feeling well and Hayden wasn't interested, so Tanner, Lucas, and I went.
If you didn't want to buy a pottery bowl, you can get ice cream in a styrofoam bowl for $2. Tanner wanted a pottery bowl, but Lucas was only interested in the ice cream.
While Tanner went to warm up with the band, Lucas had his face painted. However, he didn't believe me that what he had requested was actually painted. His requests - a yellow smiley face on one cheek and a green 'L' on the other cheek. He made me take of picture of each cheek so he could "see" what they really did to him.
