Visiting Julie and Chris in Mississippi

We had the pleasure of visiting Chris and Julie on the Air Force base in Columbus, Mississippi.  "Only" a thirteen hour drive.  As per our usual road trip travel plan, we left in the late afternoon and drove through the night.  The boys turned the van into a camper and went right to sleep.

Our visit just happened to be over Halloween, so the two little boys were excited to learn there was trick-or-treat on the base that they could participate in.  We don't usually do trick-or treat, so this in itself was a special treat.  They eagerly selected their costumes and acted the part.

Even William dressed up for the occasion - Batman or Batbaby?
The boys had a blast on this playground on the base.  It became an obstacle course that they ran time trials through and fought hard to beat each other's times.

We also got an introduction to foot golf, which is a cross between soccer and golf, played on the base's own 18 hole golf course.

And little William was the main attraction.  Only about 2 months old when we were there, we had a blast getting to meet him and spend time with him.
For Tanner, it was all fun until William cried.  Then the panic set in. :)
And thirteen hours home...this time during the day.  With the sun shining bright, the boys turned to their blankets to act as sunshades for their electronic devices screens.

This visit was a blessing in so many ways.  A getaway for our family and a reconnecting with Julie and Chris, knowing our visits with them will be few and far between when they head back to Alaska.
