Coloring eggs with shaving cream - 2013

Coloring eggs at Easter time can get boring with the same old, same old...make colored water, dip egg in colored water, let dry, repeat.  So this year, we did a little something different...used food coloring and shaving cream!!  The boys had a blast!

So the trick is to take disposable foil pans and fill them with shaving cream.  Then you take food coloring and squirt it all through the shaving cream.  Using tooth picks, you're supposed to gently swirl the colors together.

Then you take your hard-boiled eggs, dip them gently into the shaving cream letting them sit for a couple minutes.  Then you remove them and let them sit for about three more minutes.  The last step is to rinse off the shaving cream under cool water.
This was the outcome.  I think the problem we ran into was the "gently" put the eggs in the shaving cream.  By the time the boys had man-handled their eggs into the shaving cream and then man-handled them back out, their shaving cream was more greenish-brown than swirled with multi colors. :)
There's always next year though, right?
Here's a close-up of two that show at least some multi-coloring:
And then, when it was all said and done, we decided we couldn't waste perfectly green shaving cream!
So the boys headed with their tins of "paint" to the bathtub for some shaving cream war fun.
It didn't hit me until after they started rinsing off that they were going to come out of this adventure tinged green thanks to the food coloring.  Oh well, it was a fun afternoon that they still talk about!
