Boating with Uncle David - August 2012

August 12, 2012:
Tanner and Cameron were away at JIM Club, so David and Wesley went camping for the weekend, taking Jamey Shetler's brother's boat with them.  We packed a picnic to share and drove up to meet them on Sunday to do a little boating.  It was a cold, rainy day but we never let a little rain ruin our fun :)

David and Wesley had just come in from boating when we got there so we let them warm up around the campfire for a little bit and we all ate our lunch.  Then we got changed and headed down to the water.

I think they were trying to prove that they were tough in the cold water :)

I was the nice one, sharing my sweatshirt with a small, cold boy named Lucas.
I was also the smart one staying out of the cold water :)

And they're off...Emily, Hayden, Wesley, JJ, and David.

Wesley went first to show the other's how it was done.
JJ and Hayden aren't the most outgoing folks in the cold, so I'm
sure they were very glad to let him go first.

Emily was up next...

Then Wesley and JJ teamed up for a ride.

Emily then teamed up with Hayden.
Hayden looked a little shell-shocked when they flew off!

Then it was time for a kid-swap...JJ, Hayden, and Emily for Justin, Lucas, and I.
The next and probably most amusing match-up was Wesley with Lucas.
It definitely took some coaxing to get Lucas out of the boat and into the water,
but Wesley proved pretty convincing.  Lucas looked a little unsure as they started...
but was soon loving it, as the grin on his face shows :)
We had promised him that Uncle David would drive slowly just for him (David had previously said there was no slow-driving rides offered in his boat).  This helped us convince him to go.  David didn't exactly go fast, but he definitely didn't go slow either.
I don't think Lucas minded though.  He was still grinning when his ride ended and he ended with a cool, windblown hairdo that he loved!!

Then it was David's turn to do a little skiing.  Silly him handed over the job of driving the boat to me :)
When my brother is on skis, it is more than likely I'll be pulling "S" curves all over the lake in efforts to get him to wipeout in epic fashion :)  He was not happy when he finally got back in the boat, but I got a good laugh and he actually held his own pretty well.
As we were leaving, we were cleaning up our picnic and Justin grabbed his can of soda to finish off before throwing it away. Unfortunately, two bees had made their way inside and stung the inside of his mouth and lip when he accidentally drank them.  He started swelling up pretty good, so we hurriedly got in the car and started the 2-hour (give or take) drive home.  We thankfully passed a grocery store on the way and were able to get some Benadryl into him to help with the reaction but it was pretty crazy for a while.
