JJ and JIM Club - August 2012

The summer of 2012 marked JJ's first time attending JIM Club.  He was very uncertain at first with several things factoring into his hesitation.  He doesn't like to read, doesn't memorize well, and he doesn't transition well to new environments or people.  However, he did in the end decide that he would go after receiving several assurances from both my mom and I.  My mom would be at camp during his session too, so that made the decision a little easier to make.

Here are some pictures from the first weekend's show as he sings with the other campers as the choir.
Thanks to some grace and understanding from Brian Stapley, JJ was able to learn his first poem with a little help from a voice recorder that Brian recorded his poem on.  It was easier for JJ to hear it and learn it than read it and learn it.  This was a huge boost to his self-esteem as he made Hall of Merit by being in his first weekend program as a first-year boy.
 Huge thanks to Brian!
It was a relatively nice day out, so my mom, dad, Hayden, Lucas and I went around the lake to a nice, public beach and the boys went swimming.  They had a blast performing various "stunt jumps" for the camera!

Then we headed back to camp and the boys played on the swingset to burn a little more time (and energy) before the program would begin.

We were so proud of JJ and how well he did.  He had a great two weeks making friends, improving his confidence, playing sports, and learning more about how to serve Jesus.  He was already talking about what session he would go back next year :)
