Dairy Queen and Bike Rides

On Wednesday, Justin took the boys on a bike road (Lucas in the cart) down to Wolf Creek, out by the water plant, and then to the soccer fields and back. For those who know Grove City, that is a LONG way for kids to ride their bikes. However, Hayden rode the whole way and refused to get in the cart with Lucas on the way home. He wanted to do it himself...and he succeeded.
As a treat, Justin stopped on the way home and got them all cones at Dairy Queen!

Saturday, David and Erin were in a golf scramble in Grove City, so Cameron and Wesley came to play at our house. Due to the weather being so unpredictable, we didn't go up to the farm for the day. So, the boys played in the trees, played golf in the yard, ran around, and built forts.
The rain came...then stopped. So, I decided to take the boys and walk to Dairy Queen. However, after much negotiation we settled on the following:
*JJ, Cameron, and Hayden rode bikes
*Tanner wore his roller blades
*Wesley rode the scooter
*I pulled Lucas in the wagon
Our game plan was to get to Dairy Queen as soon as possible then head for the park and a pavilion to eat our treat (and stay dry in case the rain returned), which we completed with success.
We then decided to head home through the park and around the basedball fields. It wasn't until we hit the field behind the armory that things got hard. #1: Roller blades don't go so well in grass; #2: Scooters don't go so well in grass; #3: Wagons full of children don't go so well in grass.
But we made it and even found a surprise as we made it closer to home. As we passed the armory, Hayden stopped to look in a puddle. "TADPOLES, TADPOLES HERE!" Yes, in a puddle...a puddle...there were about 300 tadpoles!

Now, we had three bikes, one scooter, one wagon, and two roller blades. No place for tadpoles to join our journey. The boys were disappointed that we couldn't bring any tadpoles home but I assured them that they couldn't get out of the puddle. They had no streams or tributaries to swim to to escape the puddle. They would be there later today or tomorrow.

I'm apparently now a big meany! Takes the kids on a walk, buy them ice cream, laugh with them, encourage them when their legs get tired...

But not let them get tadpoles and that apparently erases all earlier kindness!!
