Lucas gets a "crack"

Lucas' arm couldn't quite handle the power behind the kickball his brother (unnamed to protect his identity) threw at him today. As Lucas describes it - "I have a crack in my arm".

A quick trip to the ER (50 minutes in and out - best trip of my life) confirmed our suspicions - he has a small break in the radius bone in his arm. In the printout of the xray the doctor was kind enough to give to Lucas you can see the small line across the long bone on the right up towards the top. The doctor said it was a clean break so it should heal nicely.

He's to wear this splint for now until we get an appointment with the orthopedic specialist this week who will cast it. The ER apparently doesn't do casts anymore - they make the specialist confirm it doesn't need anything more before it is cast.

As you can see, he's not doing too bad so far. He's slowly getting bored with the splint and keeps asking if he can take it off, but he hasn't tried to take it off yet. He's not happy that he can't jump on the trampoline or ride his bike until he gets his cast, but he's being quite the patient little man. He even gave the unnamed ball thrower a hug and told him it was okay and he forgave him for giving him a crack in his arm : )
